One of Killarney's most important historic sites, the beautiful lake island of Innis Fallen was home to a famous monastery and centre of learning from the 7th to 17th century. Brian Boru, Ireland's greatest High King and defeater of the Vikings, was educated here. Today, the island has the ruins of an 11th Century Hiberno-Romanesque Church and the extensive remains of a 12th Century Augustinian Priory.
